Duck (Muscovy) Anas domesticus

Duck  a word that comes from the old English duce “diver” a deriviative of the verb ducan “to duck, bend down low or get under something to dive”.

Duck in its present form is a common name for a large number of species in the Anatidae family of birds which also includes both swan and geese.

Of the skull the bill is of much interest in that it has developed over millions of years such that it is able to crop and eat grasses, aquatic vegetation, small fish,  insects, grubs and to also filter out tiny micro-organisums from the water via the use of rows of tiny plates that line their teeth.  This advanced water filtering system is similar to the Blue Whales that feed in the oceans
